Esteemed publishers and developers such as Capcom, Bandai Namco, NetherRealm Studios, and Arc System Works seized the spotlight with exciting game reveals, character introductions, and eagerly awaited release dates.

Mortal Kombat 1: Embracing New Warriors
Following a tantalizing tease from Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, NetherRealm confirmed the arrival of Reptile to the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. Joining him are 3D-era fighters Havik and Ashrah, reimagined to fit into MK1's reset timeline. A riveting gameplay trailer showcased more Kameo Fighters in action, including the relatively obscure figure from the 3D era: Sareena.


Street Fighter 6: Unveiling Fresh Fighters and Collaborations
Capcom had just launched newcomer Rashid as an add-on character for Street Fighter 6 in July, setting the stage for Evo 2023. The anticipation grew as the spotlight turned to the next character in line: the enigmatic AKI, slated for a fall release. Furthermore, Ed from Street Fighter 5 is scheduled to return in the winter, while iconic World Warrior Akuma is pegged for a spring 2024 debut.


Capcom offered fans a teaser on Friday, revealing new costumes for Street Fighter 6's Guile, Marisa, Dee Jay, and Juri.

On Sunday, Capcom offered a glimpse of AKI without revealing any gameplay. In an unexpected twist, they also unveiled a remarkable collaboration with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Street Fighter 6.


This crossover introduces TMNT-themed gear, emotes, titles, stamps, and in-game wallpapers, along with camera frames in Photo Mode. Players can even dress their custom avatars as Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael in Street Fighter 6's World Tour and Battle Hub.


Tekken 8: Welcoming Fresh Fighters
Amidst anticipation for Tekken 8's release, Bandai Namco confirmed two new additions to the roster on Sunday. The veteran Raven, known from Tekken 5, returns alongside the newcomer Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo, aka “the Peruvian coffee queen.”


Azucena's fighting style draws from mixed martial arts techniques, as detailed by Tekken 8 director Kohei Ikeda. Her signature move, the Libertador, allows her to provoke opponents while adopting a unique stance for strategic dodges and counters. Azucena's motivation for entering the King of Iron Fist Tournament? To promote her family's coffee, resulting in a distinct cinematic victory scene reminiscent of a coffee advertisement.


Fatal Fury: A New Beginning Emerges
SNK took the stage at Evo to unveil that the previously known Garou 2 has been rebranded as Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. With enticing in-game visuals, SNK confirmed a cel-shaded appearance for characters like Rock Howard and Terry Bogard. While still in fervent development, details regarding platforms and release timing for this upcoming fighting game remain undisclosed.


Guilty Gear Strive: A Season of Evolution
Guilty Gear Strive made waves as Evo's second-largest game with over 2,400 participants. Arc System Works is committed to enhancing the 2021 title through Season 3, a substantial update promising balance changes, fresh battle mechanics, and new special moves for select characters. Notably, Johnny is poised to join the roster on August 24.


Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2: A Splash of Excitement
The sequel to Fair Play Labs and Ludosity's Super Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game is here: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. Through a presentation hosted by pro player and Super Smash Bros. champion Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma at Evo, viewers gained insights into the sequel's new mechanics, including innovative controls and the transformative Slime Meter. Additionally, the reveal showcased the introduction of Plankton from SpongeBob SquarePants, equipped with a mech suit and his computer wife Karen.


Killer Instinct's Resurgence
Xbox Game Studios and Iron Galaxy are revisiting the iconic Killer Instinct, the Xbox One fighting game from 2013. This 10th-anniversary update promises a comprehensive balance overhaul, improved matchmaking, and 4K support for Series X|S. Notably, the update addresses KI fighters like Eagle and Rash. The update is set to launch in the upcoming fall and caters to Windows PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X platforms.


Project L: Introducing Yasuo and More
Riot Games' Project L, a fighting game rooted in the League of Legends universe, was a playable gem at Evo 2023. Riot unveiled Yasuo, the Unforgiven, as a new champion to grace the game's roster. A demo featuring four playable characters added to the anticipation for this thrilling release.


Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes: A New Chapter
French-Bread, alongside Arc System Works and Melty Blood developers, unveiled their latest project at Evo 2023: Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes. This sequel follows up on the acclaimed 2012 original, offering "light novel-style action" within a 2D fighting game framework. Scheduled for a 2024 release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, the game will feature rollback netcode for enhanced online play.
